Inclusion Tips with Dylan Alcott AO

[Dylan Alcott AO]

- Oh, there it is!

G'day, I’m Dylan Alcott and I'm really excited to talk to you about Disability Inclusion.

Disability Inclusion is all about making sure that everyone at your school feels good about being there.

Today, we want to give you our top three tips that will help you include students with disability at your school.

Tip one: Ask, don't assume. So what this means is don't assume what someone can or can't do. Ask them questions to get to know them and ask what they like.

Tip two: Invite everyone to take part. Ask your peers with disability if they want to join in

what you are doing. Help them work out a way that they can get involved too. It might mean doing things a little differently.

Tip three: Treat people with respect. Be nice, friendly and treat people how you like to be treated.

Great schools are inclusive and we know that inclusive schools mean all students learn better, not just those with disability. That's what abilities awareness is all about. Creating resources to help you be more inclusive.

So don't forget. Ask, don’t assume. Invite everyone to take part. And treat people with respect.
