Deb Moore:
Hi everyone. My name is Deb, and we want to start this important work on module two by first Acknowledging Country. We acknowledge the Traditional owners of the land on which we live and learn. We pay respect to them for their care of the land over countless generations. We hope that they will walk with us on our journey as we share friendship together.
Anne-Marie Morrissey:
Hello, my name is Anne-Marie. I am a course coordinator and lecturer with the Master of Teaching at Deakin University. I have particular research interests in the role of play in learning and development, as well as the importance of effective learning environments both indoors and outdoors. Deb and I work together.
Deb Moore:
We do often every year, right? And my role at Deakin University is a lecturer in the Master of Teaching for early childhood and primarily early childhood, pre-service teachers. And the units that I primarily teach into are around curriculum and pedagogy in early childhood settings and the really important work of the teacher in play-based learning.
My area of research interest is around environments similar to Anne-Marie, and especially around the environments that children create for themselves for their imaginative play and how this supports their own emotional well-being and sense of self.
There are two objectives that are central to this module too. First, we would like to further assist foundation teachers to engage in the work of creating indoor and outdoor learning environments that support the implementation of a play-based and inquiry learning approach.
Anne-Marie Morrissey:
And the second key objective is to support teachers to identify and source resources and teaching strategies to use in the implementation of a play-based and inquiry approach to student learning.
Deb Moore:
So we hope that you really enjoy this module.
