Professor Andrea Nolan:
Welcome to Module 3 where we concentrate on assessment. This module has been developed by four academics at Deakin University. My name is Andrea Nolan and I am a professor in the School of Education at Deakin University.
In this module, I will prompt you to think more about assessment generally in relation to taking a play-based and inquiry learning approach in school classrooms.
Louise Paatsch is a professor in the School of Education at Deakin University. In this module, Louise will present ways of assessing imaginary and dramatic play skills, as well as how these particular skills support students learning. She will also provide opportunities for you to observe and assess the literacy and language during play-based and inquiry learning in foundation classrooms.
Virginia Kinnear lectures in early years mathematics in the School of Education at Deakin University. In this module, she encourages you to explore the knowledge you need to notice the mathematics and numeracy in students' play-based and inquiry learning and the ways that your role in play can provide opportunities for mathematics and numeracy assessment.
Natalie Robertson is a senior lecturer in the School of Education at Deakin University. In this module, Natalie will examine the assessment of students' personal and social capabilities through play-based and inquiry learning. Natalie will also present the connections between the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and the Victorian curriculum. We hope that you enjoy engaging with this module.
