Program description

The Respectful Relationships initiative is a whole-school approach that trains teachers and supports schools to model and promote respect, positive attitudes and behaviours.

It teaches children and young people to build healthy relationships and their self-confidence. Respectful Relationships embeds a culture of respect and gender equality across the entire school community. The initiative includes:

  • intensive training
  • teaching materials
  • support for implementation.

Implementation considerations

  • Factors to consider: All Government schools are signed up to the whole school approach to Respectful Relationships. Schools are required to implement and embed a sustained approach to Respectful Relationships to support student wellbeing.
  • Staffing: Backfilling may be required to attend training and provide time-release for teachers to coordinate and plan to support implementation of the initiative.
